Cartagen and Nippi Partner to Bring Innovative
Sample Preparation Technology to the Life
Science Research Market
Nippi Inc. (Tokyo, Japan) and Cartagen
Molecular Systems Inc. have entered into
a strategic partnership to develop molecular
biology applications for Nippi’s
innovative BioMasher technology. Founded
in 1907, Nippi is a world leading research
and manufacturing company with products
supporting the food and healthcare industries.
The BioMasher technology was developed
by Nippi to rapidly prepare total cell
lysates for use in their diagnostic assay
for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (Mad
Cow Disease). Working together with Nippi
and Cartagen’s R&D partner,
Investigen Inc. (Hercules, CA), Cartagen
has developed rapid homogenization kits
to rapidly prepare PCR ready DNA from
plant and animal tissue (press
release). In addition to research
into the diagnosis of BSE, Nippi was one
of the pioneers in development of collagen
based health and beauty products. Nippi
continues to provide scientific leadership
in collagen research as well as other
product areas related to food and healthcare
products.
Partnering with Investigen to
Provide Life-Scientists with Specialized
DNA Purification and Testing Systems
Investigen (Hercules, CA) and Cartagen
have partnered to bring Investigen’s
innovative plant and food sample purification
and testing technology to the market.
Founded in 1998, Investigen develops highly-sensitive,
specific, and easy-to-use nucleic acid-based
identification systems for food quality
assurance, health care, environmental
safety, and industrial microbiology. In
the course of this development, Investigen
has established substantial expertise
and created innovative and convenient
protocols for dealing for preparation
and analysis of microbe, plant, and food
samples. Already resulting from the collaboration,
Cartagen has licensed two DNA purification
systems to isolate genomic DNA from plant
and food samples (see press
release). By teaming up with Cartagen,
Investigen can rapidly and effectively
provide life science researchers with
their latest technology, while continuing
to focus on developing new innovative
systems that address the need for rapid,
accurate, and reliable detection of genetically-modified
organisms, microbes, and disease markers.

Cartagen
and Entest Japan form Strategic Partnership
to Address the Needs of the Japanese Life
Science Market
Entest Japan, Inc. (Tokyo, Japan) and
Cartagen Molecular Systems Inc. have partnered
to bring Cartagen’s product portfolio
to the Japanese market. Founded in 1996,
Entest Japan develops test kits for ensuring
the safety of food and water supplies.
Entest is also a pioneer in the newly
emerging forensic drug market. Entest
Japan’s drug analysis software,
which is used with the Agilent microarray
platform, helps international law enforcement
agencies detect the origin of illicit
drug samples. Cartagen has appointed Entest
Japan as the exclusive sales and distribution
partner for the Japanese market (see press
release). By teaming up together,
Entest Japan and Cartagen will ensure
that Japanese researchers a have strong
local support organization to rely on
and continued access to key enabling technologies.
